Xu Wang received B.S. degree in physics from the Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1989, the M.S. degree in electronics engineering from the University of Electronics Science & Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 1992, and the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, in 2001. From 1992 to 1997, he was Lecturer in National Key Laboratory of Fiber Optic Broadband Transmission and Communication Networks of UESTC. In 2001–2002, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Electronic Engineering of CUHK. In 2002–2004, he worked in the Department of Electronic and Information Systems of Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, as TAO research fellow. In 2004–2007, he was an expert researcher in Photonic Network Group, National Institute of Communication and Information Technology (NICT), Tokyo, Japan. He joined the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., as a Senior Lecturer in July 2007. He is also serving as invited advisor of NICT (2007~), advisory professor of Chongqing University of Post and Telecommunication, Chongqing, China (2004~2007), and guest researcher of Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Science (2008~2010). His research interests include fiber optic communication networks, optical code division multiplexing, optical packet switching, application of fiber gratings, microwave photonics and fiber optic signal processing. He has held/filed 6 international patents and delivered over 40 invited talks in international conferences (including OFC, ECOC, OECC, ACP, etc). He has published more than 170 technical papers and he is the first author of over 100 among them. Dr Wang is also actively involved in organizing international conferences. He is the Funding Chair of International Workshop on OPS & OCDMA (IWOO’2006), Beijing, China, and steered the conference to the 7th year. He is the General Chair of International Conference on Advanced Infocomm Technology (ICAIT’2009) Xi’an, China; Chair of IEEE Photonic Society Summer Topical Meeting (2009, Long Beach, CA, USA); TPC Track Lead Co-Chair of 2011 IEEE International Conference on Communication Technology (IEEE ICCT); TPC Chair of Annual International Academic Conference on Information Technology Security (ITS 2010,Singapore), and serves as TPC member of many international conferences. Dr Wang is a senior member of IEEE Photonic Society/Com Soc. Dr.Wang was awarded the Telecommunications Advancement Research Fellowship by the TAO of Japan in 2002 and 2003.
