I joined School of Engineering and Applied Science in July 2009, having spent the previous four years as Research Associate and Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics, University of Cambridge. Prior to that, I spent 3 years at the Nanotechnology Research Institute and Photonic Research Institute at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba, Japan as JSPS postdoctoral Fellow and AIST fellow.

My research background is in advanced materials science, engineering and applied physics. I have gained a substantial work experience in nanotechnology, from engineering through to applications. I have developed optoelectronic devices and systems based on novel materials. An important feature of my research is a constant focus on practical industrial applications of the obtained results. Starting from my pioneering work presented at the Optical Fibre Communication Conference in 2003, in which we demonstrate the first ever nano-tube-based laser operating at 1.5 micron many of my results had an immediate impact on the research and industrial communities.

Dr Alex Rozhin is (or has formerly been) affiliated with Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies and Aston University.
