Dr Francesca Parmigiani graduated with honours in Electronics Engineering at the University of Milan (Italy) in 2002. In 2002-2003 she worked as a Research Visiting Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton (UK), mainly on optical sampling technique and high-resolution characterisation of short optical pulses in the time domain (fellowship founded by Fondazione Aurelio Beltrami for a specialization and proficiency course in a foreign university). At the end of 2006 she obtained a PhD in optoelectronics from the ORC, for her work in processing of ultra-short optical pulses for high bit rate optical communications using pulse shaping. In April 2010, she was awarded a prestigious five years Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellowships from the Royal Academy of Engineering, in support of her research on the combination of all-optical signal processing and advanced modulation formats. She is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the ORC.
Dr Francesca Parmigiani is (or has formerly been) affiliated with Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton and University of Southampton.
