Nathan Owens joined the Silicon Photonics Group in 2007 after obtaining a first class honours degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Surrey. He is currently completing his PhD project to develop a Reflective Optical Switch in SOI which is intended for routing applications within a telecommunication system. During the project he has established collaborations with the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Edinburgh to facilitate device fabrication. To complete device processing and test device structures, use has also been made of facilities at the University of Southampton and the University of Surrey. Since 2011 he has been fulfilling the role of Research Assistant along with PhD project work to enable the UK Silicon Photonics consortium to produce devices by utilising equipment available within the consortium. To date, extensive use has been made of the Southampton Nanofabrication Centre to successfully complete a Quantum-Confined Stark Effect modulator and Single-Photon Avalanche Diode in a Si/Ge material system.
Nathan Owens is (or has formerly been) affiliated with Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton and University of Southampton.
