Brian Robertson is an optical physicist with nearly twenty years academic, consulting, and industrial experience in applied photonics technology. He studied physics at Heriot-Watt University (BsC Hons and PhD), and is currently a member of the Institute of Physics.
He specialises in physical optics, optical design, holograms, optomechanics, diffractive elements, fibre optics, femtosecond optics, THz technology, and optoelectronics, and has broad experience in both modelling and experimental techniques, with particular emphasis on the development of prototype or demonstrator systems. During his career he has gained experience in the commercialization of university research, and in taking industrial products from conception to market.
Brian Robertson has published over thirty refereed journal papers and fifty conference papers in areas ranging from holography to optical telecommunications, and he has also been involved in the generation of five patents, with two pending. During 1996 he prepared and presented half a course in optical systems design at McGill University.
Dr Brian Robertson is (or has formerly been) affiliated with Cambridge University and Photonics and Sensors Group, University of Cambridge.
