I am a newly appointed Senior Lecturer at the Department. I am also an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow, and hold an honorary Senior Lectureship at University College London.
My postdoctoral research career began on joining Prof Sir Mike Pepper''s group at the Cavendish Laboratory, at the beginning of 2000, following the successful defense of my PhD at Trinity College Dublin. I was subsequently elected to a Research Fellowship at St Edmund''s College, Cambridge, in 2002. During this time I worked on the development of far-infrared (THz) SiGe quantum cascade devices.
In 2007 I joined the London Centre for Nanotechnology at University College London, working first under the late Prof Marshall Stoneham FRS, and later Prof Gabriel Aeppli FRS. I was awarded an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship to work on the physics of far-infrared emission from impurity doped semiconductors later that year.
I moved to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University in May 2011.
In addition to my academic roles, I am a Consultant Technical Advisor for London based company Bio Nano Consulting''. The company facilitates the development and commercialisation of new biomedical and nanotechnology-based techniques and products. I am also a Consultant Technical Advisor for Irish company Technology From Ideas Ltd.'' The company offers academics a zero cost way of easily and quickly commercialising their ideas without the difficulties of developing the technology themselves.
Dr Stephen A Lynch is (or has formerly been) affiliated with Cardiff University, Cardiff-photonics-and-biophotonics-cardiff-university and Condensed Matter and Photonics Group, Cardiff University.
