Integrated Communications Research Centre, University of Glamorgan

The Integrated Communication Research Centre (ICRC) was established in 2006 through the convergence of two well-established research units; the Radiowave Propagation and System Design RU and the Mobile Computing, Communications and Computing RU. The main objective of the ICRC is the consolidation of the research work of the two research units and to combine this with extended research themes and capability in the Faculty of Advanced Technology covering the full networking protocol stack _ from mobile applications through the network layer stack to broadband wireless communication systems and radio propagation studies. The Centre thus brings together relevant research on wireless communications and mobile computing to form an overall comprehensive framework for research and development in the field.

The research themes of ICRC are all focused on Next Generation (NG) communications networks and services. Research projects span over the whole network protocol stack.

ICRC has distinguished research facilities including the unique IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Next Generation Wireless Application and Service Creation lab (the only one of its type in a European university). This enjoys full sponsorship from major companies, including France Telecom (providing IMS platform worth ~'200k), Orange (Providing an indoor 3G Node B worth '250k), in addition to Ubiquity Software Corporation, and Cantata technologies; the Cisco Academy networking lab; the wireless communications laboratory; the 1-65GHz anechoic Chamber; complemented with outdoor measurement laboratory; and the Agilent Technologies Photonics Research lab which is sponsored and certified by Agilent Technologies (and a contribution worth '300k). Research combines theoretical and applied issues, In addition to infrastructure sponsors (above), research collaborators include Malaysian TeleKom R and D, Zarlink Semiconductors, GX Design Engineers, Enfis Ltd, Customer Refocus, Mediplus Ltd, Rutherford Appleton (CCLRC) Laboratory.

Integrated Communications Research Centre is part of University of Glamorgan.
